Nova Southeastern (NSU) Advanced Standing for International Dentists: The International Dental Program (2026 Guide)
Nova Southeastern University College of Dental Medicine runs the Drs. Kiran and Pallavi Patel International Dental Program, a 39-month Advanced Standing track at its Tampa Bay Regional Campus that ends with a US DMD degree. You apply through ADEA CAAPID first, then submit NSU’s own application and $50 fee once CAAPID verifies your file.
How The Study Boards helps you get into NSU
- INBDE first: NSU needs your INBDE pass on file before the bench test. Our INBDE Premium Boards course gives you faculty-written Modules, Master Files, 35,000+ questions, the test series and nightly live tests at 9 PM New York time. Students who complete the course have a 99% first-attempt pass rate.
- Personalised to you: our courses are extremely personalised. Red lines and assignments are given to you on the go, the course learns from the way you study, and faculty assist you all the way.
- Hands for the NSU bench test: bench test preparation with Dr. Kaur trains the exact preparations NSU lists: an amalgam preparation and a full metal crown preparation on a typodont.
- English, file and interview: our TOEFL course, the CAAPID application program (essays, letters, school list) and interview preparation with Dr. T cover the rest of what NSU judges.
NSU International Dental Program at a glance
From NSU’s own pages, the NSU catalog and NSU’s ADEA CAAPID listing, checked in October 2026.
Where you will train
NSU’s main dental school is in Fort Lauderdale, but this program runs at the Tampa Bay Regional Campus: a fully digital, 19,000 square foot building with 64 dental chairs, three surgical suites and a simulation lab. You follow the same curriculum as NSU’s DMD students, delivered by videoconference, lecture capture and onsite lectures and labs. Clinical work is in the Clearwater dental office under faculty supervision, including oral evaluations, preventive care, implant dentistry and prosthodontics. NSU says it is the only program of its kind in Florida.1
What NSU focuses on, and what that means for you
The facts below come from NSU’s own pages. The tips under each one are our advice, based on those facts.
A hard 3.0 GPA floorNSU wants your ECE or WES evaluation to certify a GPA of at least 3.0, and it lists academic records first among its selection criteria.4
Our adviceCheck your evaluated GPA before you pay any fees. If it is close to 3.0, a strong INBDE preparation and postgraduate coursework on your CV help show your academic level.
A bench test on two classic preparationsThe psychomotor test may include a typodont preparation for an amalgam and one for a full metal crown. NSU supplies the materials and says procedures can change.4
Our adviceAt $3,000, this test is expensive to fail. Practise both preparations under time until your outline form, depth and taper are the same every time.
Patient-centered care and communityNSU’s mission is to educate future dentists and improve oral health through patient-centered care, academic excellence, research, leadership and commitment to the communities it serves. Its core values include service, diversity and cultural competence.5
Our adviceIn your CAAPID essay, tell one real patient story from your own practice. In the interview, give an example of serving a community, not just treating a tooth.
A fully digital campusThe Tampa Bay campus is fully digitalized, and teaching mixes videoconferencing, lecture capture and onsite labs.1
Our adviceIf you have used intraoral scanners, CAD/CAM or implant planning software, put it on your CV. Show that you learn well from recorded and remote teaching too.
Requirements in detail
Your qualifying TOEFL and board scores must reach NSU’s Office of Admissions before the date of your bench test.4

Cost and financing
NSU lists a summer first year, then three full years, for a full-time student living off campus. Tap a year. NSU publishes the line items; the totals are our sums of them.2
Across all four billing years, tuition comes to $353,380 and the full estimate to about $542,293. NSU also charges program fees at registration, including a pre-doctoral instrument management fee of $3,500 in D2 and $2,000 in each of D3 and D4. Tuition and fees can change at any time.
Before you are accepted, budget for the INBDE ($1,325), the CAAPID fee ($264 for your first program, $115 for each extra one), your ECE or WES report, the $50 NSU fee and the $3,000 bench test fee.479 Our breakdown of what it costs to apply to US dental schools covers the full list.
How international dentists pay for it
Advanced Standing usually costs roughly $250,000 to $450,000 all-in, and NSU’s estimate sits above that range because it includes four billing years of Florida living costs. Almost everyone finances it with loans, so do not let the number stop you.
NSU’s international office says international students may consider private loans, and that a US citizen or permanent resident typically co-signs.6 Across the US, the usual routes are private loans, co-signer loans with a US citizen or green-card holder, and a few international lenders that need no co-signer. Read is becoming a US dentist worth it for the full picture.

Other routes if NSU is not the right fit
Most dentists apply to several programs in the same CAAPID cycle.
Advanced Standing elsewhereOther US schools run 2 to 3 year programs to a DDS or DMD, mostly through ADEA CAAPID. Compare them in our full list of US dental schools and the Advanced Standing programs guide.
AEGD programsSome states give a limited licence after an AEGD; the rules vary by state. You apply through ADEA PASS. See AEGD programs for international dentists.
Residency directlySpecialty residencies through ADEA PASS. This is more competitive for internationally trained dentists. Read CAAPID or PASS.
TeachingSome dentists start in teaching and research roles at dental schools while they plan their next step.
If you are also weighing Canada, the AFK is the first exam on that route. Our NDEB AFK exam guide explains how it compares with the INBDE.
