ATSU Missouri Dental School for International Dentists: The Advanced Standing Track (2026 Guide)
A.T. Still University’s Missouri School of Dentistry & Oral Health (ATSU-MOSDOH) runs the Advanced Standing International Dentist Track, a program of about 28.5 months in St. Louis that ends with a US DMD degree. You apply through ADEA CAAPID and must be a US citizen or permanent resident; the last cycle opened on March 5, 2026 and closed on June 1, 2026, for a January 4, 2027 start.
Who this guide is for: Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi and Nepali dentists (BDS), and other internationally trained dentists, who now live in the US as citizens or green-card holders and want a US DDS or DMD with a community health focus.

What the 28.5 months look like
You start with a non-degree semester of didactic and clinical simulation work built for international dentists. Pass it, and you join ATSU-MOSDOH’s regular class for the D3 and D4 years.1
What ATSU-MOSDOH focuses on
ATSU-MOSDOH describes itself through “a mission of service, social responsibility, and excellence” and “increasing access and services for vulnerable populations.”5 Its whole clinical model is built around community health. Here is what it selects for, and our advice.

These rules apply from the January 2027 cohort onwards.1
Selection steps and the application timeline
This is how the 2026 cycle ran. It is closed. ATSU says CAAPID opens in March of the year before you start, so the next window should open in March 2027 for a January 2028 cohort.1

Before you are accepted, budget for the INBDE ($1,325), the CAAPID fee ($264 for the first program, $115 for each extra one), the ECE report ($199), ATSU’s $150 secondary fee and the $1,500 skills test, plus your TOEFL and travel to St. Louis.1678 See what it costs to apply to US dental schools.
How international dentists pay for it
Advanced Standing usually costs roughly $250,000 to $450,000 all-in, and ATSU’s tuition and fees of about $261,000 sit at the lower-middle of that range before living costs. Almost everyone finances it with loans, so do not let the number stop you.
ATSU’s track pages do not describe loans, so ask ATSU’s financial aid office what applies to you. Because every applicant is a US citizen or permanent resident, your options are usually wider than for visa holders. Across the US, the common routes are private loans, co-signer loans with a US citizen or green-card holder, and a few international lenders that need no co-signer.

Other routes if ATSU-MOSDOH is not the right fit
Ten seats at most is a small cohort, so most dentists apply to several programs.
Advanced Standing elsewhereOther US schools run 2 to 3 year programs to a DDS or DMD, mostly through ADEA CAAPID. Compare them in our full list of US dental schools and the Advanced Standing programs guide.
AEGD programsSome states give a limited licence after an AEGD; the rules vary by state. You apply through ADEA PASS. See AEGD programs for international dentists.
Residency directlySpecialty residencies through ADEA PASS. This is more competitive for internationally trained dentists. Read CAAPID or PASS to choose.
TeachingSome dentists start in teaching and research roles at dental schools while they plan their next step.
If you are also weighing Canada, the AFK route through the NDEB is the first step there. Our NDEB AFK exam guide explains it.
