What ATSU-MOSDOH focuses on

ATSU-MOSDOH describes itself through “a mission of service, social responsibility, and excellence” and “increasing access and services for vulnerable populations.”5 Its whole clinical model is built around community health. Here is what it selects for, and our advice.

Underserved care, every dayThe school clinic, the St. Louis Dental Center, is run in partnership with Affinia Healthcare, a Federally Qualified Health Center, in an area of St. Louis with a high proportion of underserved people.2Our advice: write about patients who could not afford care and what you did for them.
Community and public health rotationsIn D4, about ten weeks, a quarter of your clinical education, happen at community sites: health centers, Indian Health Service and tribal clinics, veterans’ clinics and mobile clinics.4Our advice: camps, rural postings and public hospital work are your strongest material here.
Experienced dentistsYou need at least two years of unsupervised practice in your home country and a copy of your licence, current or expired.1Our advice: give numbers: years, patients a day, procedures you did alone.
Solid gradesATSU sets a minimum dental school GPA of 3.0 on the ECE evaluation.1Our advice: check your ECE GPA before you pay any fees.
Hands and judgement, in personSelected applicants travel to St. Louis in August or September for an interview and a skills bench test.1Our advice: at $1,500 a sitting, go only when your preparations are already at US standard.
US residents onlyApplicants must be US citizens or permanent residents; people living in the US on a visa are not eligible.1Our advice: if you are on a visa, put your effort into schools that accept it.

So, in your CAAPID file and interview, show thisYears of independent practice and a real commitment to underserved and community care. One letter must come from a supervisor or a dentist you shadowed, so US clinical exposure helps.1 This is our advice, built from ATSU-MOSDOH’s stated mission and requirements.

How international dentists pay for it

Advanced Standing usually costs roughly $250,000 to $450,000 all-in, and ATSU’s tuition and fees of about $261,000 sit at the lower-middle of that range before living costs. Almost everyone finances it with loans, so do not let the number stop you.

ATSU’s track pages do not describe loans, so ask ATSU’s financial aid office what applies to you. Because every applicant is a US citizen or permanent resident, your options are usually wider than for visa holders. Across the US, the common routes are private loans, co-signer loans with a US citizen or green-card holder, and a few international lenders that need no co-signer.

Ten seats at most is a small cohort, so most dentists apply to several programs.
