Meharry DDS International Track for International Dentists: 2026 Guide
Meharry Medical College School of Dentistry in Nashville runs the DDS International Track, a 24-month Advanced Standing program that begins with a six-week preclinical module and ends with a US DDS degree. You apply through ADEA CAAPID, and the current window closes on November 1, 2026, for a June 1, 2027 start.
The application window is open now, and it closes soon.Meharry opened its CAAPID application on May 12, 2026 and closes it on November 1, 2026. You must have passed the INBDE (or NBDE Parts I and II) before the deadline, and your TOEFL must be 100 or more with no section under 25. If both are done, finish the CAAPID file and the Meharry supplemental application now.2
Who this guide is for: Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi and Nepali dentists with a BDS, and other internationally trained dentists aiming for a US DDS or DMD through the Meharry DDS International Track.
How The Study Boards helps you get into Meharry
- INBDE first: our INBDE Premium Boards course gives you 35,000+ questions, faculty-written Modules and Master Files, full test series and nightly live tests at 9 PM New York time. Students who complete the course have a 99% first-attempt pass rate. Meharry wants the pass before November 1, so if you are aiming for the next cycle, give yourself the full course time.
- Built around you: at The Study Boards, in Dr. T’s words, our courses are extremely personalised. Red lines and assignments are given on the go, the course learns from the way you study, and faculty assist you at every step.
- TOEFL: our TOEFL course for dentists is built for scores like Meharry’s 100, where every section must reach 25.
- CAAPID file: the Master the CAAPID Application program builds your essays and your school list with our faculty. For Meharry, that means essays that show real service to people who struggle to get care.
- Hands and interview: bench test preparation with Dr. Kaur and interview preparation with Dr. T. Meharry has no admission bench test, but its six-week module assesses your preclinical skills straight away.
the Meharry DDS International Track at a glance

What the program looks like
You start with a six-week, individualized training and assessment module in comprehensive preclinical dentistry and its biomedical applications. Once you pass it, you complete the two-year clinical program. In the final year you take the Final Clinical Competency Examination (FCCE) course, the same course every traditional DDS student takes.1
What Meharry focuses on
Built from Meharry’s mission, the International Track page and its CAAPID requirements.
- Make service the spine of your personal statement. Name the camps, rural clinics or free-care days you worked, with numbers and dates.
- Explain why you want to treat patients who find it hard to get care, and connect that to Meharry’s mission in your own words.
- Ask a teacher who supervised you in clinic for one letter, and ask your dean for another. Brief both on Meharry’s focus.
- Treat the TOEFL as a gate: aim well above 25 in speaking and writing, not just a 100 total.
- If invited to speak with the school, show that you are ready for clinical work from week seven. The six-week module moves fast.
Requirements in detail
Meharry’s rules are short but strict. A 99 on the TOEFL, or a 24 in one section, means your file is not considered.

Cost and financing
Meharry publishes an estimated budget for each International Dental year. Tap a year to see it.3
Meharry calls these estimated budgets, subject to change. Living costs assume about $1,800 a month rent in Nashville.
Before you are accepted, budget for the application stage too: the INBDE ($1,325), the CAAPID fee ($264 for your first program, $115 for each extra one), the ECE report ($199) and the Meharry supplemental fee, plus your TOEFL.678 Our breakdown of what it costs to apply to US dental schools covers the full list.
How international dentists pay for it
Advanced Standing usually costs roughly $250,000 to $450,000 all-in. Meharry sits in the upper half of that range. Almost everyone finances it with loans, so do not let the number stop you.
Meharry says only US citizens and permanent residents can receive federal Title IV aid, and it encourages international students to research other funding, including private loans. It suggests you confirm your funding before you apply.4 Across the US, the common routes are private loans, co-signer loans with a US citizen or green-card holder, and a few international lenders that need no co-signer.

Other routes if Meharry is not the right fit
Ten places a year is a small number, so most dentists apply to several programs.
Advanced Standing elsewhereOther US schools run 2 to 3 year programs to a DDS or DMD, mostly through ADEA CAAPID. Compare them in our full list of US dental schools, the Advanced Standing programs guide and our CAAPID shortlisting guide.
AEGD programsSome states give a limited licence after an AEGD; the rules vary by state. You apply through ADEA PASS. See AEGD programs for international dentists.
Residency directlySpecialty residencies through ADEA PASS. This is more competitive for internationally trained dentists. Read CAAPID or PASS to choose.
TeachingSome dentists start in teaching and research roles at dental schools while they plan their next step.
