The 6-Month INBDE Plan for Dentists Working Full-Time or Part-Time: How to Prepare Without Quitting Your Job

The 6-Month INBDE Plan for Dentists Working Full-Time or Part-Time: How to Prepare Without Quitting Your Job

You do not get the uninterrupted hours a full-time student has, and the program does not assume you do. The same 12 sections and the same mentors work around a job, a shift schedule, or both, if you pace them deliberately. Here is how.

$4996-month access, our most recommended runway
12sequenced course sections, same for every plan
24/7mentor access, not tied to your shift
1fixed nightly appointment: the 9PM Live Test
Two levels, one programBeginner Level is the slower-paced program, with more time and longer deadlines. Advanced Beginner Level gives you all the teachings of the Beginner course at a faster pace and on a faster schedule, and is for students who are really confident about their basics. The only difference is speed. Your basics are taught through the Modules our faculty created for every subject, then the Master Files take you topic by topic, then the Master Test Series lets you apply it all.

Same 12 sections. A different rhythm, not a different program.

The 6-month plan is the same INBDE Premium Boards course at every access length: the same 12 sections, the same mentors, the same nightly Live Tests. What changes for a working dentist is how those sections get scheduled, not what is inside them.

Short

Several sections fit in minutes, not hoursRapid Fire (60 seconds a question), Daily Test Series (game-style, 3 lives) and the Task for the Day are all built to fit into a genuinely short window between patients or shifts.

Fixed

Mornings and evenings

Anchor your main study block before or after work

Use a fixed morning or evening slot for Master Files, Master Test Series or the Diagnosis Series, since your work hours are predictable. Fill commute time or short breaks with Rapid Fire, and keep the 9PM Live Test as your one non-negotiable appointment.

More flexible pacing

You can likely keep closer to a full-time student’s pace

With a lighter clinical load, aim to cover one of the 12 sections’ worth of material most weeks. You still benefit from treating the 9PM Live Test as a daily non-negotiable, since consistency matters more than any single long session.

Plan week by week, not day by day

Pick a different anchor each week based on your actual roster

Rather than a fixed daily slot, plan your main study blocks a week at a time around your known shifts. Rapid Fire and the Daily Test Series are short enough to fit into whatever gaps that week actually has.

Lean toward a full-time rhythm

Use the extra hours while you have them

If your hours are temporarily lighter, this is a good window to move faster through the foundation sections, since your schedule may tighten again later in the 6 months.

Q&A

Queries and Help SectionSubmit a question whenever you actually have it, at 6 AM before a shift or 11 PM after one, and a mentor answers you personally. This is 1:1 support from the program’s faculty, not a forum thread or a bot, and it does not require booking a slot.

Ranked

Your results are watched even if you are not watching the clockMaster Test Series rankings against 350+ peers per batch are calculated automatically. Consistently landing in the last 50 is a built-in signal for mentors to step in, whether or not you have had time to flag it yourself.

The one time you do need to show upThe 9PM New York Live Test is the single part of the program tied to a real clock, shown in your own local time. Everything else, including every Master File, test series and mentor query, is available whenever your schedule actually allows it.

A realistic 6-month pace for a working schedule

This stretches the same sequencing further than a full-time student’s pace. It is TSB’s own suggested structure, and your mentor can adjust it to your real week.

Months 1 to 3Sections 1 to 4: build the foundation at a sustainable paceClinical Sciences basics and Master Files first, since the program leads with them for a reason. Individual-subject Master Tests and cumulative tests follow as each subject is actually covered, not on a forced calendar date.
Months 3 to 4Sections 5 to 6: apply and cover the blueprintDiagnosis Series vignettes and the Foundation Knowledge Areas, scheduled into whichever weeks give you the steadiest hours.
Month 5Sections 7 to 8: revise, then target your weak zonesThe 20-day Revision Series and the full-syllabus tests, ideally timed to a period when you can protect slightly more study time than usual.
Months 5 to 6Sections 9 to 12: go exam-readyGrand Test simulations need a genuinely protected 8-hour block each, so book these in advance like an appointment. Daily tests, Rapid Fire and the nightly Live Test continue running throughout.
Book your Grand Tests like you would a shift swapAn 8-hour simulation is the one section that does not compress into short windows. Pick the date in advance and protect it deliberately, rather than hoping a free day appears on its own.

12 tips, in three groups

Tap a group.

1
Treat the Task for the Day as non-negotiable, even on busy days

It is built to take minutes, not hours. Completing it every single day, even briefly, protects the momentum that a packed work schedule otherwise interrupts.

2
Make the 9PM Live Test your anchor habit

It is the one fixed appointment in the whole program. Building your day around not missing it gives your week a consistent shape even when everything else shifts.

3
Do not let an irregular schedule mean irregular effort

A rotating roster changes when you study, not whether you study. Replan your week as soon as your shifts are confirmed, rather than deciding day by day.

4
Tell your mentor your actual schedule

Through the Queries and Help Section, let your mentor know you are working, and roughly how. A mentor coordinating your sequencing can account for a tighter weekly rhythm if they know about it.

5
Use Rapid Fire for the genuinely small windows

60 seconds a question fits a 10-minute gap between patients. Save your longer, uninterrupted time for Master Files and the Diagnosis Series, which need real focus.

6
Do the Daily Test Series when your energy is lowest, not your time

The game-style, 3-lives format rewards quick, low-stakes practice. It is a good fit for the tired end of a shift, when deep study is not realistic anyway.

7
Decide fast on questions you do not know, every time

With less total study time than a full-time student, spending 15 to 20 minutes stuck on one question is a bigger loss for you, not a smaller one. Mark it, move on, and bring it to your mentor later.

8
Batch cumulative tests to your actual week, not a forced calendar date

The 2-to-3-subject cadence is about spacing, not a specific date. Take the cumulative test as soon as you have genuinely finished that span of subjects, even if that lands mid-week instead of on a tidy schedule.

9
Block your Grand Tests weeks in advance

An 8-hour simulation needs a real day off or a genuinely quiet stretch. Treat it like booking time off work, not something you will find time for spontaneously.

10
Use your full 6 months deliberately, not as a last resort

Unlike a full-time student who may finish early, a working schedule often needs the full runway. That is exactly what the 6-month length is for, so do not feel behind for using all of it.

11
Ask for a pacing check with your mentor at the halfway point

Around month 3, confirm with your mentor whether your section progress matches a realistic finish inside the 6 months, and adjust together if your work schedule has shifted.

12
Keep showing up for the nightly Live Test in your final weeks

Even if your main study time shrinks before the exam, the nightly randomness training is short and high-value. It is one of the easiest sections to keep up with a tight schedule.

Quick answers

Frequently asked questions

Is there a separate version of the program for working dentists?
No. Every plan, including the 6-month plan, unlocks the exact same 12 sections and the same mentors. What this guide describes is how to pace that same program around a job, not a different program.
What if my shift schedule means I miss the 9PM Live Test sometimes?
Aim to attend as many as your schedule genuinely allows. It is the program’s one fixed daily appointment, but missing it occasionally does not remove you from the rest of the program’s sequencing or mentor support.
Can I ask my mentor for help outside normal hours?
Yes. The Queries and Help Section is written and 1:1, so you can submit a question whenever you have it and get a personal answer, without needing to match a live appointment time.
What happens if I do not pass after finishing the program?
If you finish the course with no overdue days and score 60% or more on every test along the way, and still do not pass the INBDE, TSB refunds your course fee and your INBDE exam registration fee (approximately $1,000 USD).
